A Bag Full of Lemons – Week 24

After a mixed bag of results during the week normal service was resumed at the weekend with most matches panning out as one would predict, some would argue Liverpool would have been expected to beat Hull but Hull are a team in form and Liverpool have been abysmal since Coutinho was injured. With this in mind my score of 69 points is pleasing but the average score of 51 shows how easy to score if all the results end up as expected.

Having watched Romelu Lukaku in mid-week against Stoke I was considering transferring the Everton player out as was evident at the Bet365 that if he is not getting the service the Belgian doesn’t bring a lot else to the team but I am glad I kept the faith as Lukaku grabbed a mouth-watering 21 points and my Giraffe of the week. Unfortunately, at the other end of the spectrum, my Lemon of the week goes to a Stoke player for the second game week in a row. Whilst he has been undoubtedly Stoke’s best player this year my one criticism of Marko Arnautovic is his inconsistency and sadly Saturday was one of the days nothing seemed to go right for him.

Again I would have loved to have brought Saido Berahino in for Stoke’s match against a Crystal Palace side that Grab the Cash Sam seems to have done the impossible and worsened since he took over from Alan Pardew but Liverpool’s form has been so bad of late that I have decided to replace Roberto Firmino with Spurs’ Christian Eriksen.

A Bag Full Of Lemons – Week 14

Another average week with my team only getting three more points than the average of 46 with Coutino’s absence being a big blow.

From Lemon to Giraffe, Romelu Lukaku¸ wins the Giraffe of the Week despite being in a losing team. At the other end of the scale there were a number of players who vied for Lemon of the Week but I am giving it to Gareth McAuley for picking up a yellow card in what was otherwise an impressive display against Chelsea

After last week’s rejigging to bring in Kelechi Iheanacho I am now able to bring my Stoke contingent up to the maximum allowed of three by swapping the injured Coutinho for Xherdan Shaqiri who goes straight into the team in place of his team mate Ramadan Sobhi. After their lacklustre display against Leicester I am expecting Manchester City to bounce back against Watford and this is why I have decided to take a gamble and make Iheanacho my captain!

A Bag Full Of Lemons – Week 13

Whilst everyone else seems to have been making hay this week I feel like my team is treading water with my total of 52 points only slightly higher than the average of 50 and a long way behind the best of 149!

There can only be one winner for the Giraffe of the Week and that is Harry Kane, who managed to bag over half of my team’s entire points. The fact that the Spurs striker contributed so many points to my miserly total suggests there are a number of players who are in contention for the Lemon of the Week but for the second week in a row I am awarding it to Romelu Lukaku. I have said previously he is a streaky player and I have to hope one of those streaks is just around the corner. I will keep the faith at the moment but honestly I fear the worse now his partner in crime, Yannick Bolaise, is set for a lengthy spell on the side lines.

With Coutinho also out for a significant period of time, and Butland’s comeback stalling, I am afraid I am going to have to stick with only two Stoke players for a couple more weeks as I try and rejig my squad. These week’s change is reactionary after Aguero’s horror tackle on David Luis and with the Argentinian banned for the next four matches I have decided to replace Charlie Austin with Aguero’s teammate Kelechi Iheanacho.

A Bag Full Of Lemons – Week 12

Another bad week for almost everyone, with an average score of 46, which means I am not too disappointed by my miserly 40 points. The big concern for me is Coutinho getting injured and Shawcross being ruled out with a calf injury. Let’s hope The Captain is back for the Burnley game!

After another low scoring week my Giraffe of the Week goes to Victor Moses, who seems to have nailed down the right wing back spot at Chelsea and who was the beneficiary of some woeful defending by Spurs. There were a few nominees for this week’s Lemon of the Week, including myself, but I have decided to award this dubious honour to Romelu Lukaku, a player who runs hot and cold and is currently running sub-zero.

With Sobhi and Bony not getting onto the pitch I have decided to rejig my compulsory three Stoke players and, for this week only, I will have only two. With the uncertainty over Wilfried’s future at Stoke I have decided to transfer the Ivorian out and replace him with Charlie Austin, who’s Saints play Crystal Palace at the weekend, a team who after watching them against Swansea are going to have problems with the type of threat Austin provide.
