Search For A Stoke City Star – Soualiho Meite

With less than a month to go until the transfer window opens the footballing rumour mill is beginning to build into a crescendo of speculation. In keeping with this tradition I will be giving you my run down on the players who are being linked with a move to the Bet365. This time one of the most exciting young players in Europe:

Soualiho Meite

Soualiho Meite

Current Club: Lille (on loan at Zulte Waregem)

Position: Defensive Midfield

Possible Price –  Between six and eight million pounds

Anybody else interested: Crystal Palace

Giraffe or Lemon:  Potentially a bull of a giraffe

Where Would He Fit In:

Either next to Glenda or Clumsy at the base of the midfield.

Do We Need Him:

My heart would say no because Glenda has been such a consistent performer for Stoke over the years and Clumsy is one of players of the season but my head tells me Glenda’s legs are going and bringing in a younger version is a priority over the next twelve months.

Who’s place would be under threat:

In the upcoming transfer window I wouldn’t expect Glenda to be replaced but if Meite did arrive and performed well for the remainder of the season I would expect the Irishmen would be allowed to leave. Bringing in such a player would also allow Stoke to trim the fat in our midfield ranks and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Charlie Boy and Stephen Ireland become surplus to requirements.

Verdict: Of all the names we have been linked to so far this is the one which excites me the most but it is also in a position where we are well served, with the returning Afellay also looking to compete with Glenda and Clumsy for a place in the starting XI.
