Search For A Stoke City Star – Alex Witsel

With the international break now over most football journalists will, if they haven’t already, try to justify their paycheques by speculating on who will be going where during the upcoming transfer window. In keeping with this tradition I will be giving you my run down on the players who are being linked with a move to the Bet365. This time a rumour that may just be too good to be true:

Alex Witsel

Current Club: Zenit St Petersburg

Position: Midfield

Possible Price –10 Million Pounds

Anybody else interested: Juventus, Liverpool, Everton

Giraffe or Lemon:  Giraffe.

Where Would He Fit In:

In the centre of midfield next to either Glenda or Clumsy.

Do We Need Him:

Stoke have needed a long term replacement for Glenda ever since N’Zonzi left eighteen months ago. A Belgian international, Witsel would be an upgrade on those playing in his position at the moment

Who’s place would be under threat:

One of either Glenda or Clumsy would find they have been demoted to the bench and personally I would give Clumsy the chance to play alongside the Belgian. A player of Witsel’s calibre would also push Imbula further down the pecking order and I would expect the Frenchman to be sold along with either Stephen Ireland or Charlie Boy.

Verdict: For a club of Stoke’s stature this would be a fantasy signing and if he came to play Witsel would be a huge star down at the Bet365 however the player has stated that he will be playing for Juventus in the near future and I expect them to be his next club. Although it is nice to be linked with players of Witsel’s calibre it’s also pleasing to realise, on current form, he would have to play to his best to dislodge any of the current midfield three of Glenda, Clumsy and Joe Allen.
